Q. Hey, your site looks pretty cool. What CMS is it running on?
A. No CMS here, I'm afraid - this site is 100% coded from scratch (well, sort of - more on that in a moment). I actually think the trend towards Content Management Systens is a fairly good one - it makes the internet more accessible to a wider range of users, without plaguing us with the geocities-quality sites of yesteryear (remember the backgrounds made entirely of animated gifs repeated endlessly? I do. In my nightmares...) By utilizing a good CMS, non-programmers can throw together really professional-looking sites.
That said, I am a programmer - it would be kind of silly for me to use a CMS for anything non-trivial. I wanted the challenge and customizability that comes with rolling my own and so... three months later... Sane Method was born.
Now, as to the 'sort of' in the 'made from scratch' thing - what I mean is, while the code the site runs on is 100% original, the code my code runs on isn't. I availed myself of two really great programming frameworks: Codeigniter and jQuery. I've done a fair amount of work in plain javascript and PHP (see my original blog software at Google Code for an example), but frankly, to get a really professional result in a reasonable time-frame, frameworks are more and more helpful, if not necessary. I'll rant on that in a future post, though.
Q. So, why would I want to register for your site? I mean, I have like a million logins already.
A. Well, I do offer you some free upload space for files and images... but really, you should join in so we can get a community going. That's what's driving the web these days - everybody chipping in to make each site a success. I'm constantly looking for content creators and moderators to help me build Sane Method up, so register, get active in the comments and forum (when I get around to putting it in place), and bring the community to life!
Also, you can login with Google, Yahoo! or Facebook, so you don't even really need a new login (although it is significantly faster to use a local login than to have to go through a third-party). The choice is yours.
