For those who are still reading, I've been learning flash in general, and Flixel in particular, and to that effect I put together a learning project inspired by some similar programs, about a year ago now. It consists of a working replica of the famous clock-tower clock from the center of Clocktown in Majora's Mask. Yes, time was being very subtly emphasized in that game...
In any case, in addition to being a working replica of said clock, it has some other neat features which I added with the intent of learning the features of Flixel and how to perform game related tasks. Thus, there is a custom pause dialog, accessible by either pressing 'p' or clicking on the digital time display diamond at the bottom of the screen, which will allow you to change a number of options regarding program operation.
All these options will be saved in the shared object model... for those who don't know or care what I'm talking about, it saves your changes to the options. Yes, let the people rejoice.
Also, an animated Tatl will fly in and out at a user-adjustable interval with something silly to say. Currently, its limited to a list of about twelve snarky comments, but there's code in place that will let me update the list remotely via xml on the server. I haven't fully tested it yet, but a future update should see a whole new set of annoying comments readied for Tatl to snark at you with.
Finally, I played around with some lighting effects, and my favourite was a sort of 'spotlight' effect that turns on only at night.
All in all, it taught me a fair bit - I feel ready to start making something half-decent in Flash. In the meantime, though, feel free to check out the clock - and to those of you so taken with it you want it with you, always, I've provided an AIR version you can download and install. Enjoy!
